Last week, more than 90 people came together in Edinburgh to celebrate the Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Project securing a Contract for Difference (CfD) in the UK Government’s seventh allocation round.
Hosted at the Port of Leith Distillery, the event brought together the project team, partners, stakeholders and supporters to recognise a significant milestone for the project and for the wider floating offshore wind sector in Scotland.
The CfD award provides an important foundation for the next phase of development and reflects growing confidence in floating offshore wind as a key part of the UK’s future energy mix.
Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Farm, located off the coast of Dounreay in Caithness, is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power up to 70,000 homes once operational. The project is also expected to support more than 1,000 jobs across construction and operations while helping to accelerate the industrialisation of floating offshore wind technologies in the UK.
The evening provided an opportunity to reflect on the progress made to date and recognise the collaboration helping to drive the project forward.
Project development activities are being led by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) on behalf of Highland Wind Limited and funds managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), alongside project partners including Great British Energy, the National Wealth Fund, the Scottish National Investment Bank, Eurus Energy UK Ltd and Hexicon AB.
The project team looks forward to continuing engagement with local communities, stakeholders and the supply chain as the project progresses toward a final investment decision by the end of 2027.
