Closing the Deal award win for Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Farm
The Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Farm has won the Closing the Deal award at the 2026 RenewableUK Global Offshore Wind Awards, recognising the pioneering partnership that brought public and private investors together behind one of Scotland’s flagship floating wind projects.
The award celebrates landmark transactions that innovate, accelerate or grow the deployment of offshore wind, recognising pioneering approaches to financial structuring, risk management and the use of private capital that build investor confidence and enhance the capacity of the sector.
In 2025, the National Wealth Fund (NWF), Great British Energy (GBE) and the Scottish National Investment Bank each acquired a minority stake in the project, developed by funds managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), with each having the option to invest up to £50 million as the project progresses through development and construction milestones. Together, this represents up to £150 million in equity, alongside existing project partners Eurus Energy UK Ltd and minority shareholder Hexicon AB.
The partnership combines CIP’s private-sector expertise with long-term public investment. This blended model helps de-risk an early-stage technology, crowd in additional private capital and create a scalable funding approach for future floating wind projects. The investment also marked GBE’s first stake in a project, putting the UK’s publicly owned energy company at the forefront of floating offshore wind.
The judges also recognised how the partners worked together to get the deal over the line. A coordinated due diligence process across all four organisations streamlined decision-making and reduced duplication, allowing a complex transaction to progress efficiently.
Confidence in the project was further strengthened in 2026, when Pentland was awarded a Contract for Difference by the UK Government, providing long-term revenue certainty and a clear route to delivery.
Laura Paton, CFO of the Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Farm, said: “We’re delighted that Pentland has been recognised with the Closing the Deal award. Bringing together Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Great British Energy, the National Wealth Fund and the Scottish National Investment Bank required a genuinely innovative approach, and a huge amount of work, commitment and collaboration went into getting the deal over the line.
“Floating offshore wind is still an emerging technology, and this partnership shows how public and private capital can work together to de-risk early-stage projects and build investor confidence.”
